EURO 2024: On About Nothing Predicts

Who Will Win the Euros?

France National Football Team

Bolish: Head says France, heart says Spain. But I'm going with Croatia.

Bright: France. More team cohesion due to the amount of time the core group has played together (Olivier Giroud, Ngolo Kante, and not to mention Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe). Add in the hunger from the (relatively) new guys, and I only see one winner. Plus, an Ousmane Dembele win bringing Barcelona tears is a bonus.

Kunle: It’s France, isn’t it? You come up with a knee-jerk conclusion, you say France. You think about it a bit more, you say France. You think about it for months, it’s still France. I want to be wrong, but if it looks like France, and talks like France, it’s probably France.

Wale: France will win the Euros. Tournament football isn’t about style of play or how flashy your team is. It’s basically about efficiency. And as much as they are talented (probably the most talented team in Europe), Didier Deschamps’ troops are equally as efficient, as they have proven over the last few international tournaments.

The Four Semi-finalists Are…

Croatia national team captain Luka Modric

Bolish: France, England, Croatia, and Spain.

Bright: Italy, France, England and Portugal.

Kunle: France, Italy, Turkey, and Germany.

Wale: France, England, Portugal, and Germany.

Who are the Dark Horses?

Austrian Head Coach Ralf Rangnick

Bolish: Denmark.

Bright: Turkey and Denmark look prime to disrupt every prediction you would get.

Kunle: They absolutely let everyone down in the Euros three years ago, but I still think Turkey have something different here.

Wale: Austria.

Who Wins the Golden Boot?

Harry Kane

Bolish: Harry Kane.

Bright: Harry Kane or Olivier Giroud.

Kunle: Romelu Lukaku maxes out for goals in the group stage and takes it.

Wale: Kylian Mbappe.

Who’ll be the Player of the Tournament?

Kylian Mbappe

Bolish: I’ll be bold and say Lamine Yamal (at least Young Player of the Tournament, anyway)

Bright: If I am sticking to who I think will win the whole thing then it has to be Antoine Griezmann or Kylian Mbappe.

Kunle: On the basis that Antoine Griezmann will be overlooked for this once again, Toni Kroos to have one final party in his career, before bowing out.

Wale: Kylian Mbappe.

Who will disappoint?

The Netherlands national team lining up

Bolish: The Netherlands, and Jude Bellingham.

Bright: It wouldn’t disappoint me personally, but I think given the group they find themselves, Spain might shock everyone, and the Nations League winners might have an underwhelming performance. Their core is a largely inexperienced one, and I’m not sure they’ll get to the levels we should see. The Netherlands too might struggle.

Kunle: Seems a long shot, but what are the odds on both Spain and Portugal going home after three games?

Wale: Italy are defending champions but might struggle in this tournament. Phil Foden might fail to hit the heights of his amazing season with Man City.
